Special Ceremony Honors WWII Pilot’s Courage, Service
By Mary Ann Lopez

On Friday, U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) presented the Distinguished Flying Cross medal to Naperville resident Jane Wulf in honor of her late husband Elmer B. Wulf, a World War II Air Force pilot. At a special ceremony held in Biggert’s Willowbrook office, Jane Wulf was joined by several members of her family as well as Elmer’s co-pilot Hugh “Robbie” Robinson. Wulf and Robinson served in the 381st Bomb Group, 535 Bomb Squadron of the 8th Air Force.

“The Distinguished Flying Cross is a recognition of heroism at its finest,” said Biggert, who worked with the Wulf family to recommend Elmer for the award. “It’s awarded to those who demonstrate extraordinary courage in aerial combat. There’s no doubt — on that dangerous bombing mission — Elmer’s bravery knew no bounds.”

On February 14, 1945, Elmer piloted a B-17 Flying Fortress, which suffered heavy flak damage under enemy fire and lost three of its four engines. Maneuvering through heavy artillery, Elmer put the lives of his ten crew members before his own – ordering each of them to bail. Thanks to Elmer’s skillful flying and smart orders, every crew member successfully parachuted from the bomber before Elmer made an emergency crash landing, which he too survived.

“While we can never repay our veterans for the countless sacrifices they have made, we can take every opportunity to honor them and keep their memories alive,” Biggert said. “Elmer was a hero – not only to those aboard his B-17 Flying Fortress — but to every American who values the freedom that he worked so hard to protect.”

“It means so much to me and my family for Elmer’s life and achievements to be presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross,” Jane Wulf said. “I know my husband would have been honored to receive this distinguished recognition. We’re grateful that Congresswoman Biggert worked with our family and the Air Force to secure this special recognition.”

House defies veto threat, passes loan bill
Bill would keep student-loan rates from rising on July 1
by Robert Schroeder

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Defying a White House veto threat, the House of Representatives on Friday passed a Republican bill to keep interest rates on federal loans carried by college students from doubling on July 1.

The nearly $6 billion cost of the House bill is paid for by taking money out of a prevention and public-health fund included in President Barack Obama’s health-care law, a move opposed by many Democrats. Republicans pointed out that Democrats have voted to tap the fund to prevent reductions in payments to Medicare doctors. [...]

The GOP measure would prevent rates on loans to students from rising to 6.8%, up from 3.4% currently, on July 1. It passed the House on a 215-195 vote. [...]

The House bill would keep lower rates in place for students “without raising taxes on their potential employers,” said Rep. Judy Biggert, an Illinois Republican.

U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale) wanted to assure the seniors living at Spring Meadows in Naperville Tuesday that rumors about cuts to their Medicare benefits were just that — rumors.

“I can’t stress that enough,” Biggert told the seniors at the meeting. “We’re not going to throw Granny over the cliff … it’s shameful that they (Democrats) are spreading lies.”

Biggert, with much of her 13th District redrawn into the newly created 11th Congressional District, is running against former Democratic Congressman Bill Foster in the November election.

Biggert noted that the House of Representatives recently passed both a budget and HR-5, a bill that would reform the process of medical lawsuits and repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board. [...]

AURORA — U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert talked small businesses and job creation with a group of Aurora business leaders Wednesday.

Biggert, a Republican from Hinsdale, said the goal of the meeting was to update local leaders about what’s being done in Washington, D.C., that may impact them. The Aurora Chamber Legislative Group met at the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce offices in downtown Aurora.

“We plan to really reform taxes in order to increase our economic growth,” Biggert said Wednesday.

U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-13th District) conducted a town hall meeting Friday with seniors at the Lake Hinsdale Village Senior Community to discuss her efforts to safeguard, improve and strengthen Social Security and Medicare for current and future retirees.

She issued the following statement:

“I’ve always believed that a promise made is a promise kept. And I have no intention of letting the federal government break its promise on Social Security and Medicare.

“We have to face facts. Without action, Social Security is expected to go bankrupt by 2036 and Medicare by 2024. We can’t continue to expect systems created decades ago to work the same way in 2012 and beyond. And with more than 10,000 Baby Boomers reaching retirement every day, we must take steps now so current and future retirees don’t face drastic and harmful cuts in as few as 10 years.

“House Republican Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-1st-Wis.) introduced the House Republican Path to Prosperity Budget Proposal, which would preserve Medicare and Social Security for the next generation of seniors without altering the carefully laid retirement plans of current seniors. For individuals 55 years of age or younger, the House budget expands on traditional health care choices to harness the power of competition, drive down costs and improve care.”

“As a senior myself, I think it’s shameful that Democrats are resorting to scare tactics to spread election-time lies about the future of Medicare and Social Security. Even more disappointing, the president has denied the problem and failed to offer any plan to save Medicare. Instead, his health overhaul law actually cuts Medicare by $500 billion.

“For the fiscal future of our children and grandchildren, we must set aside election-year games and find bipartisan solutions in Washington.”

The National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) today endorsed Judy Biggert for the new 11th congressional district of Illinois in the upcoming March 20th Republican primary. Based on her solid and consistent pro-gun voting record, Biggert earned an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF.

In the 112th Congress, Biggert cosponsored and voted for H.R. 822, The National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act, which would ensure that law-abiding Americans with a valid concealed handgun license would be able to carry their concealed firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

Unfortunately, Illinois is the only state in the union to not allow some kind of concealed carry of firearms. It’s far past time for the General Assembly to act and allow Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons for self defense like all other Americans. That’s why Biggert also joined the entire Illinois Republican Delegation and one Democrat to encourage Governor Pat Quinn, State Attorney General Lisa Madigan, and legislative leaders to let the Illinois citizens carry concealed weapons in public.

Daily Herald Endorses Judy Biggert in 2012 Primary.

“Republican Judy Biggert of Hinsdale has established a solid reputation as a hardworking and collaborative conservative, a steadfast voice for supporting business while controlling federal spending. In recent years, she has chaired a major revision of the nation’s flood insurance program and points with pride to the compromises required to produce legislation that won overwhelming bipartisan support. She has also become one of the House’s most outspoken experts on the effort to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.[...] Biggert has been a consistent force for her party in Washington for nearly 14 years.[...] We endorse Biggert.”

Chicago Tribune Endorses Judy Biggert in 2012 Primary

“Our endorsement goes to Biggert, a moderate conservative who has capably represented Chicago’s west and southwest suburbs since 1998. She’s consistent on issues but willing to listen to the arguments of her opponents, all too rare in Washington. In an attempt to oust Biggert from Congress, Democratic mapmakers fractured her old district and gerrymandered her into the new true blue 5th District. Biggert chose to run in the 11th, where roughly half of her former constituents now live.”
